The 2CoolPC

Introduction
The 2CoolPC is an air ducting system for your PC. I had been curious
about the performance of this item for quite some time now. So, when Southbay
asked me to review it, I was more than happy to oblige. What it basically does
is intake cool air from the front of the case and blow it right over the AGP/PCI
area of the motherboard. There are two versions, the 2CoolPC and the 2CoolPC
Plus. The only difference is that the Plus version has a 50 CFM fan while the
Standard has a 42CFM fan.
Installation
The unit comes with three Velcro pads which secure the duct in place.
Just slide it to the back and it is positioned directly over the AGP card. In
my case (literally), there was plenty of room. Replace the case and you're off!
There are exact dimensions at the 2CoolPC
website if you need more info on the unit's size.
Performance
I placed a digital thermometer lead in the middle of the case where
it was not in direct contact with any heat or airflow. I noticed a 3 degree
drop in temperature. For most people, it may have been more but I already have
a lot of cooling in my case. The biggest advantage I received from the card
was the cooling of my GeForce DDR. As you can see in the picture (click to enlarge),
I have an exhaust fan right below the card. The 2CoolPC blows cool air on the card
and it is then sucked out through the back by the exhaust. With this setup I
was able to take the GeForce to 150/340 MHz. This is up from the default of
120/300. I was finally able to hit over 5000 3D Marks. Not bad at all...
Conclusion
At $35 the Plus is a bit pricey but definitely a good buy. The standard
is available for $25. There is also a 3-Pin connector version available for
$40. The design is as simple as can be and doesn't look like much when you get
it. But it performs very well. Overall, I would give it an 7/10. Thanx to 2CoolPC for the review units.
